About Sensei Dan Pereira...
Sensei Dan first started Karate at 6 years of age when he was in school, He trained at a shotokan dojo for 2 years and obtained yellow belt. After a few years the instructor at this karate club began to teach kick boxing rather than traditional Karate. Dan left this club in search of a club that would teach traditional karate, he found this in a local Wado-Ryu Karate class.

Sensei Dan has been trained at this club for over 16 years where he obtained his Dan grade under the teaching of Sensei Dave Paintain and Sensei Keith Hewitt, both senior 3rd Dan black belts teaching for over 30 years. During this time Sensei Dan was registered with the EKGB and the Shikon karate associations.

Sensei Dan left his home town Birmingham UK to attend University in Stafford UK, here he opened his own Karate Club. He taught this club for 2 years until he finished his degree and moved out of Stafford and was forced to shut down the club.

While Sensei Dan was at university his home club in birmingham had to shut down due to the bad health of the instructors. With no other place to train Sensei Dan opened up his own Dojo in birmingham the Anzen Dojo and registered the Club with a highly respected Karate association the EKO, to which Sensei Dan teaches to this day

When you train you should make sure that your instructor is a registered member of a known martial arts organization such as the EKGB, EKO, Shikon etc... And that they hold the relevant grade to be instructing a class, usually this is a Black belt.

Here are a few things you should expect from your instructor when training. These are just guidelines of what makes a good Instructor

Respect
Your instructor should have the ability to command the respect and attention of their class, if students do not respect their instructor they will not listen to his/her instruction and can lead to dangerous situations. With respect come discipline and with discipline come good Karate students

Demonstration
Different instructors have different techniques for teaching but all of them should be able to demonstrate techniques in a was that you can understand, usually by breaking the technique down and using constant repletion. If you do not understand ASK!

Organization
Organization is an important aspect to look for in an instructor, they should have the ability to organize the class during training to make sure everyone in the class is getting the appropriate attention and right tuition.

Clarity
An instructor should be able to give commands clearly and have them followed. Instruction should be specific and understandable if you cannot hear your instructors commands then he is not doing his job properly. You instructor should always be able to give you advice even if that advice is referring you to another student.
