Blocking

The Japanese translation for the word 'Block' is 'Uke'. Differant blocks are used for differant types of attacks. A block should be treated as a strike and should have as much power as any punch or kick as it much match or exceed the power of the attack it is deflecting.

Blocking is all about timing and good technique and power, if you block to soon the attacker will see it and change the strike to evade your block, block to late and you get hit!, Try practising you blocks one at a time with a partner, start slow and speed up gradualy, then ask your partner to attack in thier own time and attempt to block the attack, do this untill you are comfident with your blocking ability. the next step is to tell you attacker to attack with an unknown attack, this way you have see the attack and make a discition on how to defend againt it.
